Tofino Guerilla Film Contest, Year 6

6th Annual Guerilla Film Competition
Shelter Restaurant February 12th, 8 pm

It's the 6th consecutive year for the Tofino Guerilla Film Contest, and we can officially say we are going strong!

Have you been wanting to submit a film but thought it was too time consuming or expensive to purchase equipment? Well fear not, in this day and age, nearly everyone has a smartphone, computer, or handheld device with a built-in camera (or at least know someone who does), and with a vast array of free editing apps and programs, we can all now make short films! No need for bulky camcorders and VHS tapes, gone are the days of complex t.v. based editing, and who has the time and money for complex and professional software? No, today YOU can be the writer, filmmaker, editor and producer in a few simple actions and for a cost as little as a blank DVD.

So this year we have compiled a short list of our favorite free to practically-free apps and editing programs for the modern day
filmmaker. (Note: there are many more options out there!)

Apps for iPhone & iPad:

Magisto (also available for Android)
FREE - A slick editing app that allows you to make basic tweaks to your videos, like trimming frames, camera stabilization, changing transitions, and adding filters, music and sound effects.

Qik
FREE - A basic editing app with a few added features, which allows you to make simple tweaks to your work and then easily share the finished results.

Cinefy
FREE - One of the newest apps with a super intuitive interface, which allows you to mix together clips, add music and play around with 100 different effects.

iMovie App
$4.99 - Apple's mobile version of the original software, it is one of the most popular video editing apps in the iTunes store. iMovie offers some simple editing capabilities with a variety of different themes and allows you to tap, drag and pinch your way around.

Apps for Android:

AndroVid Video Trimmer  & AndroVid PRO
FREE - $2.49 The interface balances accessibility and functionality. It’s based on a ‘timeline’ view (i.e. your entire sequence) and offers basic editing functions like trimming clips, changing their order, and inserting transitions in an obvious and logical manner.

Andromedia Video Editor
FREE - Based on a ‘timeline’ view (i.e. your entire sequence) and offers basic editing functions like trimming clips, changing their order, and inserting transitions in an obvious and logical manner.

Magisto
FREE - See above!

Now all you have to do is upload your film to a computer with a DVD rendering program like iDVD! Voila.

So again, the rules this year are the same: 5 minute film max, any genre, and keep it relatively clean! This is an all ages show after all.

**Disclaimer to parents, young people and sensitive individuals: We ask that all of the films be clean, but this is an adult oriented competition. Occasionally what we feel is acceptable to the general public of this show may still be considered offensive to some. Use discretion before attending.

Happy filming!!!
